01 · Orientation

What data analytics actually is

Data analytics is the practice of turning scattered observations — sales, clicks, sensor readings, survey answers — into structured evidence you can act on. It's less about big formulas and more about a repeatable process: collect, clean, examine, visualize, decide.

01

Descriptive

What happened?

Summarizes past data — totals, averages, trends. E.g. "Sales grew 12% last quarter."

02

Diagnostic

Why did it happen?

Digs into causes by comparing segments and correlating variables.

03

Predictive

What's likely next?

Uses patterns in historical data to forecast future outcomes.

04

Prescriptive

What should we do?

Recommends actions based on predicted outcomes and constraints.

02 · Statistics

Mean, median & mode

Three ways to describe the "center" of a dataset. Rotate the chart and switch between measures to see how each one reacts differently to the same numbers — notice how an outlier drags the mean but barely moves the median.

03 · Statistics

Spread & distribution

The mean tells you the center; standard deviation tells you how spread out the data is around it. Most real-world measurements — heights, test scores, response times — cluster into this bell shape, with roughly 68% of values falling within one standard deviation of the mean.

04 · Statistics

Correlation ≠ causation

Correlation measures how two variables move together, from -1 (perfectly opposite) to +1 (perfectly aligned). It's one of the most useful — and most misused — ideas in analytics: a strong correlation never proves that one thing causes the other.

Toggle the pattern to see how the point cloud tightens or scatters.

05 · Workflow

The analytics process, end to end

Every analytics project — beginner or expert — moves through the same five stages. Scroll to see each one settle into place.

01 · Collect

Gather data

Pull raw data from spreadsheets, databases, forms, or APIs.

→
02 · Clean

Wrangle it

Fix missing values, duplicates, and inconsistent formats.

→
03 · Analyze

Find patterns

Apply statistics and queries to surface trends and relationships.

→
04 · Visualize

Make it visible

Turn findings into charts and dashboards people can scan fast.

→
05 · Interpret

Decide & act

Translate the picture into a recommendation or decision.

06 · Communication

Picking the right chart

The chart type should match the question you're asking, not the other way round.
